| Crime is everyone's problem.
FICRA has established a Crime Watch Committee
to coordinate crime prevention measures on the Island. Shortages
of Sheriff's Deputies to patrol the island, and the rural nature of our
Island requires that we take proactive measures of our own to prevent
crime. Our goal is to develop
both short term and long-term solutions to this very important issue. Have you been wondering about those orange flags at
the Fox Island Bridge? This is the FICRA Crime Watch
Committee's crime event warning signal. When a crime
event has occurred on the Island, the orange flags go up. See
the crime incident list below for more
information on specific alerts. Submit an
incident using our form below.
Citizen's Patrol (CP) meets at the community Center at
7:30 PM on the 2nd Wednesday of each month. Meetings are open
to those who participate in CP and are open to
the public. Call Stan Weston
at 253-549-2904. A community crime prevention
committee has recently
been formed to deal with this problem. In order for us to address this
issue and take appropriate actions, we need your help.
We are organizing Neighborhood Watch committees, and Citizen
Patrols to help monitor our neighborhoods, and report suspicious activities
to the local law enforcement agencies.
The Crime Watch Committee meets the first Wednesday of the
month, at 7:00 at the
Nichols Community Center. Stop by and lend a hand, or get some hints
on how to prevent crime here on the Island. Your input is welcome at these
important gatherings. Lets fight crime!

Watch poster.
Put one in your window, post them in your neighborhood, and in any other
conspicuous place that will deter potential thieves.

When I asked her if she lived on our road, she said she was new to the neighborhood. Male subject was lurking at the top of my driveway behind some trees.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH CRIME PATROL
Thank you FOX ISLANDERS for your tremendous support in helping
to prevent crime within our community. We have been working to develop two
programs, Citizens Patrol and Neighborhood Watch. The following has been
accomplished since our last report to you:
1. We are still getting excellent support from the Pierce
County Sheriff's office. Dedicated law enforcement will, continue to be provided to the Island on a regular
basis by the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.
2. Several neighborhoods are beginning to organize and
participate in neighborhood watch programs.
3. A citizens volunteer patrol has been formed and will in the
near future be providing random patrols throughout Fox Island.
4. Over $1,600.00 has been donated to FICRA to support crime
watch activities. Monies will be used to purchase neighborhood crime watch signs
and equipment for the volunteer patrols.
5. NEW WARNING SYSTEM As part of the crime prevention program,
the crime watch committee will post a warning flag on the Neighborhood Watch
bridge sign. This flag will be posted for 24/48 hours immediately after a
criminal incident on the island. Additionally, the nature of the criminal
activity will be posted on the Fox Island website. www.foxisland.net
Crime is down on the Island, but it has NOT been eliminated.
For example, several boats and vehicles were recently stolen and vandalized.
Island residents could help reduce more crime by becoming involved in
neighborhood watch programs. Those neighborhoods that have not formed
neighborhood watch programs are also in need of block leaders. Sign your roads
and streets to let everyone know that crime will not be tolerated in your area
because the neighbors are looking out for each other.
We need more volunteers for citizens against crime patrols.
The task is not difficult. Patrols will be by vehicle and volunteers will act as
the eyes and ears for law enforcement. All suspicious activity will be reported
to appropriate officials. Volunteer members will never make arrests or act in
anyway that will place themselves or others in danger.
Thank you again for your participation and support. However,
it's just the tip of the iceberg. To be successful at making Fox Island a safe
and crime free place to live, we ALL need to be committed by doing YOUR
part.
